The
Twins of Fate (Part I)
by Teacher Christine
**Kingdom of Enchantments**
“We
have no other choice!” chokes the King, as he raises the legendary medallion
above the crib of the twins. As
the clanging of swords and whistling of explosions drew closer and closer to
the royal bedchambers, the King holds the gaze of his queen and presses on in a
firm voice, “It was prophesized that they would survive the Day of Calamity if
we send them to another world, and would one day take their rightful places as
heirs to the Kingdom of Enchantments.”
The
Queen approaches the crib and reaches past the _____________ goose down
blankets to the twins beneath and brings them into her arms for one last
time. The jingling of the
necklaces hanging around the necks of the twins sound from the sudden movement.
The Queen gently kisses the crown of the elder brother’s violet hair as the
baby smiles at her with his crystal baby blue eyes. “I love you Aoi,” she murmurs to her little boy with a teary
voice. She then places a gentle
kiss on the crown of the younger sister’s baby blue hair, as the baby calmly
gazes back at her with violet eyes.
“I love you Murasaki,” the Queen murmurs to her little girl, before
struggling to place them back into the crib. The Queen _____________ the majority of her energy gripping
the edges of the crib as she restrains herself from taking the twins in her
arms again.
The
King chants the incantation from legends past, orated for the record by his
ancestors and passed down through much secrecy along with the legendary golden
medallion in the palace treasury.
As he exerts the last of his strength in finishing the incantation, the
twins start to flicker, and then they finally disappear in a sudden burst of
blinding light.
**Human World**
A
married couple sits sullenly on a park bench on the night of a full moon as the
doctor’s words repeat through their minds, “I’m sorry, but having a baby is
going to be extremely difficult for your wife to bear, with the condition she
has.” As they think about the
doctor’s recommendation for them in adopting children as an alternative, a
flash of bright light draws their attention to the lake. Cautiously approaching the area where
the bright light appeared, the husband and wife discover a baby boy and a baby
girl clutching one another, wrapped in the indulgence of a plush blanket. Sticking out from the folds of the
blanket is a letter:
Please
raise our beloved twins in our stead.
The older baby boy is named Aoi, and the younger baby girl is named
Murasaki. We love them with all
our hearts.
The wife glances at her
husband with a wishful look, as her hopes rise with the appearance of the
babies. “We’ll take them in as our
own,” she states with a renewed energy burning within her.
**16 years later**
“Score!”
exclaims Aoi as he lands a hit on his opponent with his bamboo sword. He takes off his helmet and returns to
the sidelines to receive the compliments from his teammates. “We won the final tournament, Mr.
Beech. Now fulfill your promise
and bring us to the beach!” Aoi shouts with glee, as he smiles at the play on
words he made months ago. He
linked Mr. Beech’s name to the _____________, beach, and was able to get the
coach to agree to take them on a trip if the Kendo team wins the final
tournament. Aoi had Mr. Beech
record the bet on paper, as he wrote the words _____________ed.
“Of
course I’ll do what I promised Aoi,” replies Mr. Beech, as he turns to face the
crowd of spectators, parting for the beautiful twin gracefully making her way
to her brother.
Murasaki
brushes her fingers through her long, wavy baby blue hair and congratulates her
brother for the win. “Wait for me
Murasaki! It’ll take me a few minutes to wash up and I’ll meet you at the front
gates, Twin,” Aoi says before disappearing into the locker rooms. Murasaki smiles in response, as her
upbeat, energetic brother always appears to be in a rush.
